I do believe that they did in fact have doors, it was very rare to see them closed and I cannot find a picture right now of them closed. But...... if you look in the books U-BOAT WAR by BUCHHEIM ( chapter \"tracking the convoy \") and U-BOOTE by JEAN PHILIPPE and DALLIES LABOURDETTE ( page 58 ) both show open doorways but with door hinges clearly visible on the right side of the door frame edge. I have read that the door to the radio room was closed when decoding top secret messages with the captain.
