Hi again:
Really, Tauchzelle had dual purpose, you are right. After consumed fuel contained in them, they were used as ballast tanks, but, then, what is the difference between a Tauchbunker and a Regelbunker?. I say this because in all the books I have, it´s explained Regelbunker were free flooding fuel tanks, or self-compensating tanks (Type VII U-Boats, by Robert C. Stern, for instance)
