I have no experience on U-boats, but USN damage control approaches include the following options:
If the leak is from an internal pipe or tank, closing a valve may stop the leak. Pipes can also be repaired by use of sleeves held on with clamps. Small holes in bulkheads can be stoppered with conical wooden plugs driven with hammers, and then braced against structural members like frames. Cracks in steel plating can be covered with a sealing mat backed by a hard flat surface and braced against structural framing. Wedges can be driven between the braces and the framing or sealing plate to increase internal pressure against the leak.
Naturally, these procedures become more difficult as external pressure increases; but a small aperture can admit a lot of water under high pressure, so the size of repair need not be large to significantly reduce rate of flooding. =AL=
