Thank you for your answer. I knew it was the procedure of some sort of stadimeter, though I was not sure if they had \"automatic\" calculation (ie: split-image) w/ periscope optics or the operator need to calculate on his own by some sort of sliding ruler after reading marks.
Thing is that I saw \"split-image\" stadimeter in WW1 U-boat periscope, but seeing some images of WW2 U-boat periscope displays, I was not sure if they used the same technique or not.
