RE: Vulnerability during schnorkeling?

A boat would be quite deaf while using diesel engines. The view through the periscope would be so limited that they would be fairly blind. Speed was reduced while snorkeling and in any wave action would have the crews ears popping constantly, if not rupturing eardrums.
