Hi Andy H.,
While Joe is correct in stating the purpose of the half dome in front of the conning tower of the type 7 and 9, I doubt you saw the wreck of either types. There is no record of a wreck of a type 7 any where near the isle of Corfu. Also to the best of my knowledge no type 9 boats were sent to the Med in WW2. Thus, the wreck you saw was either from WW1 or WW2 Italian resp. Allied or post WW2 who knows what nationality. Rgds, RB
