They certainly didn\'t go deep when schnorkeling, and I suspect they could still use their periscope. Therefore, an attack on a convoy was feasible, but it isn\'t bright to use your schnorkel while you\'re attacking a convoy. It\'s a big, lumpy thing sticking out of the water, and it\'s hard to miss.
