Since the torpedo is fired everything is lost wether it hits something or not. In case of an excercise torpedo it was recovered but those had no warhead and thus no firingpistol.
The Pi3/MZ3 was an Italian invention and was a magnetic and impact detonator wich worked rather well. The first ones to be delivered came directly from the Italian navy in august 1943.(In dispear the Germans had turned to the Italians because of the torpedo-crisis) Later is was re-named in MZ-3a and build in Germany.
