Hi Robert !

I have information about the "Lerche" seeker which says that the wire was only paid off from the torpedo, (like your discription for the "Spinne") and the wire made its way through the propeller-shaft(quill). The wire was made of hard-copper, diameter 0,45 mm, with isolation material Igelit. Range 6000 m. I can only guess if paying off from the torpedo makes it possible to fix it at the piston on the front side and maybe some 7 m on the back side with connection to the controls in the boat or if it was constructed (1944) for the type XXI and XXIII boats which had no piston push out.
The T11 Spinne worked wire guided but the target had to be fixed optical (Periscope) what left a radar echo for the time the torpedo was running. Therefore Spinne was stopped.
If you are interested I have additional Info about seekers for the T5 not wire guided.

Regards,

Dirk
