Lifeboats, dinghies U-31 class

Hello, I am working on a screenplay in which my hero begins the film on a U-31 class U-boat, and I have a question I hope someone can answer for me. Did these U-boats have lifeboats or dinghies on board that would allow them to travel from their boat to another ship? If so, how and where were they stowed? Many thanks for any assistance. John
