Dønitz' 44 uboats...

In his book Zehn Jahre und Zwanzig Tage Dønitz writes that for Operation Sealion he would put up everything he had regardless of delays in training and the production of new boats. He specifies 44 available boats, having then excluded a number of boats for technical reasons.

This coming from the boss himself should there be any reason to doubt the figures mentioned by him?
