Depth Charge Thrower

All,

Reading a convoy report and it was stated that a merchant ship was carrying additional stores of depth charges and items referred to as 'stalks'. Would I be correct in saying that this is just another name for the spigot that held the depth charge tray and was launched with the depth charge when fired from the thrower?
