authentication of U-boat generator

Can anyone give me info on how to authenticate a generator said to have powered a U-boat. My boss has had it in his possession for a number of years. I think he said it originally came from Argentina and was used to power motion picture lighting in South America. From there, it has worked on many big films for about fifty years. Thanks.
