Grateful if one will clarify if I have understood the clutches correctly.
From my understanding, there is a clutch between the engine and motor (engine clutch), and there is a clutch between the motor and the propeller ( prop clutch).
Are these clutches electrically activated (e.g. solenoid) or are they mechanically activated. And is it possible to control them remotely ?
Am I right to understand :
To propel with diesel and charge batteries, both clutches ON.
To propel with motor, engine clutch off, propeller clutch on..
Rarely, to get maximum propulsion, motor and engine energised and both clutches ON.
To only charge batteries, engine clutch ON propeller clutch OFF.
When U 505 towed, engine clutch OFF, propeller clutch ON, spinning propeller used to turn motor to generate current.
Is this correct ?
Many thanks
Pras
