<HTML>Hi John,
S 14 Onslaught was one of the 12 "Oberon" class boats built in the early 60s as replacement for the "A" and "T" classes being phased out of service.
Onslaught was built by H.M. Dockyard, Chatham, laid down 8/4/59, launched 24/9/60 and commissioned 14/8/62. She had a displacement of 1610 ts standard, 2030 surface and 2410 dived, length 90.0 m overall, beam 8.1 m and draught 5.5 m, armament consisted of 8 x 533mm torpedo tubes; diesel-electric power plant gave her a speed of 12 kn surfaced, 17 kn dived.
This class of subs had improved (over previous designs) detection equipment and the highest underater speed since the "R" class of 1917. They were capable of maintain submergence for the patrol's dration & were armed with homing torpedoes. Max diving depth was listed as 200 metres. Upon being odernized she received type 051 forward sonar and type 2046 passive "clip-on" stern sonar (towed array).
Onslaught was paid off in June 1990,stricken 12/90 and sold 5/10/91 to Turkey for scrap.
Hope than answers your question, regards,
Brian</HTML>
