Hello Tubby,

The Ultra reference comes from ADM223/31 although not specified as such, it is obvious that it came from Sigint. This volume contains a great deal of information concerning Italian convoys gathered from Ultra decrypts but it is not complete by any mean. I found some instances of signals which were not listed.
You may perhaps find the original reference in the HW1 files.

The book "La Guerra di Mine" (1966 edition, Ufficio Storico) shows a number of antisubmarine minefields laid off the Italian coast between Cape Circeo and Giglio Island (10 minefield lines of 60 mines and 4 of 40 mines laid in August 1941, all laid at a depth of 8 meters), this is on Map no.3 (page 42). Unfortunately the book does not provide the exact coordinates of these minefields. TURBULENT could have been lost on any of these, however I am inclined to think that ARDITO was the most likely cause but until the wreck is found, we shall never know for sure.
