Dear Rex:
I have also been researching on the USS SWALLOW AM-65. My Father-in-Law, (Glenn F. Neal, RdM3c) also served on the USS Swallow up to the very day the Japanese Plane flew into the starboard side. He was standing on main deck while watching the plane come in, and hit the deck for cover just before impact. He was stranded out to Sea along with other shipmates for a few hours before being rescued. He told me all about it in great detail. He has told me many stories and experiences while on the Swallow, and many are funny. I also have a copy of the Letter of Commendation to All Hands, given individually on May 15, 1945 by the ship's commander, W.F. Kimball, Lieut. Comdr., USNR.
If you wish more information and detail on this issue, plus some of his experiences on the Swallow, you can contact me at my current E-mail address (shotgun2@bellsouth.net) for further information. Also, if you like, I can pass on your E-mail address to my Father-in-Law who is now 83 yrs old, and a living survivor of the Swallow and very much still active. You can correspond with him directly.
