GREYHOUND was indeed used to evacuate troops from France; on 24th May 1940 she carried out a shore bombardment near Calais and the following day she lifted off 500 troops; as she was clearing the area she suffered a hit in the engine room from shorefire but was able to proceed to Dover, but was unable to take part in the rest of the ops.
After repair Greyhound covered the operations off Dakar, west Africa and then went to the Mediterranean in September 1940. In January 1941 she sank the Italian submarine Neghelli and in March 1941 the Italian submarine Amfitrite. Present at the battle of Cape Matapan in March 1941.

She was sunk in May 1941 during the evacuation of Crete by German Ju-87 'Stuka' bombers
