Greetings to the crew, family and friends of HMCS Arrowhead. As part of the research associated with the discovery of a U-Boat in the Churchill River of Labrador in 2010, I have been working with the Arrowhead 'family'. In particular, Chief Petty Officer Glenn Martin and his amazing story of meeting a German medical officer who once watched Martin and the rest of the crew (10 years earlier), fishing with explosives near Rigolet, Labrador in the fall of 1944. The medical officer was on a U-Boat that could have torpedoed the corvette easily. After 12 months of research we have been able to corroborate the story and have located the daughters of the medical officer in the U.S. Last weekend (26-28 Oct 2013), we met in Martin's home town of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. The 'we' included a large group of veterans, family and friends of the Arrowhead (Martin and George Greenfield, family of Bill Warwick, Jack Wampler, Ray Percival, and Lee Caine - including relatives of the original owner of the ship's mascot from Goose Bay) as well as one of the U-Boat medical officer's daughters - either in person or as part of an international teleconference call. It was an emotional 'reunion' and great to demonstrate the accuracy of Chief Petty Officer Martin's memory.

There are several media reports related to this story but we are still looking for additional details. If you have knowledge of the deployment of medical officers in the Kriegsmarine during 1944 and/or the crew and activities of the Arrowhead during the fall of 1944, I would appreciate hearing from you.
