Hi Tony,
the building yard for the 493 was Frank Curtis, Ltd, Looe, Cornwall (spelling corrected).
There were a number of subs sunk in the Algiers area, mostly Italian, I am still working on the databse of damages, which will not be completed for some time due to the need to go through many patrol reports, at this time I am unable to find any that were damaged in that zone, definitely not an Italian boat.
The reason for not listing the MLs is unknown to me. It may lay (but this is only a speculation) in the fact that these boats were no more than "inventory" for the Navy, ergo, they were expendable, like the USN PT-boats. They were not considered as "ships" and as such passed over in listings.
