Hi James
Looks as though your Grandfather may have been involved with my Father during the war. I'm trying to piece it together as he seldom mentioned it until grilled by his grandchildren. Did he mention being sunk by a tidal wave on the Sittang River on Burma in may 1945? Look up Burma Star Assoc. and an account by Frank Merrett called Incident on the Sittang. Fascinating reading which ties in with what my father mentioned of D day and an attempt to destroy a bridge in Burma.
