Actually I think more is known about the vital role of the Canadians in the Battle of the Atlantic than many of the commonwealth nations that took part in convoy protection. There are a large amount of publications from Canada on the corvettes in particular and the Canadian Navy in general, but who has read anything about the Norwegian, Free French, Polish etc. contributions, not many of us I would wager. The Canadians are well aware of their contribution and understandably proud of it, they had a Battle of the Atlantic Memorial (the museum ship HMCS Sackville moored at Halifax) long before we ever considered the prospect in the UK, in fact we are still struggling to fund a similar project (the return of HMS Whimbrel from Egypt). I think those of us who research this period of naval history are equally aware of the important role of the Canadians. What we really need now is some better recognition, via publication, of the role of the RN and commonwealth escort groups.
