hi Kathi

Do you have any more information about the date of the loss of the YMS-22? the only info I could locate was as follows:

YMS Class Auxiliary Motor Minesweeper: Laid down 8 July 1941 by the Greenport Basin & Construction Co., Long Island, NY; Launched 31 December 1941; Completed 14 May 1942; Commissioned, (date unknown); Decommissioned, (date unknown); Struck from the Naval Register 19 July 1946. Fate unknown.

Is it possible your Dad was actually on the YMS-21? She was lost as follows: Launched: 25 Nov, 1941. Commissioned: 18 Apr, 1942. Lost: 1 Sep, 1944. Mined and sunk off Toulon, France in position 43.06N x 05.54E.

If it was YMS-21, you are in luck(ish): The French Language 'Bible of Wrecks' includes detailed information of the wrecks of YMS-21, YMS-24 and BYMS-2022, issued by Jean-Pierre Joncheray,Saint-Raphael, France.(For further information:[home.wanadoo.nl]) might have more details?
