Hello, Curtis. I'm sorry, but I had not noticed your August 2008 message until today. My Father, Lt.(j.g.) T.M Andrews, was a member of the crew of USS Direct from August 1942 through December 1943. I was looking at some crew lists we still have and can't find your Dad's name. However, I think these lists derive from 1942, when the ship was first commissioned.
I would be especially curious whether your Father ever talked about his being a replacement for crew members that were killed or wounded during the July 1943 surface engagement with an enemy submarine.
Not all that long after my Dad left USS Direct in early December 1943, I believe the ship reverted to its earlier configuation as a PC (Patrol Craft). I think it lost the name "Direct" and again became USS PC 1596. Did you Father ever talk about that?
