Mark,
My dad was a crewmember of the Bluefish in WWII. His name is Harvey Smith and was a machinists mate. I remember him telling me a story about how the boat tried to submerge once and the bow of the boat went down while the stern stuck straight up in the air. They were submerging because they had spotted an airplane approaching. Luckily, the plane was American. My dad said it must have been quite a site from the plane to see this submarine with its ass-end sticking up in the air. I don't know how true the story is or if I've told it correctly. I remember this story being told to me as a boy many years ago. Unfortunately, my dad passed away several years ago so I can't confirm the story. Could this be anything like the story you're asking about?
