I think the Japanese ship you're talking about was a small merchant junk they sunk just after sinking the Japanese submarine in July, 1945. The deck log talks about giving the crew a chance to abandon the junk and the captain wrote that they made haste their departure from the boat. The Bluefish then sunk the boat with their deck guns.
