On 26th April in 1915 Georg Ritter von Trapp (U-5) sunked the French cruiser LÉON GAMBETTA. This was the first ever torpedo atack under the water, which was succesfull.
After this again in 1915 near to the island of Pelagossa U-5 sunk the Italian uboat NEREIDA. This was the first ever battle uboat ws. uboat
In 1917 Trapp was given a new U-boot, this was U-14. In 1917 he sunked the Frech steamship COSTANCE, the Italian steamship MILAZZO, and he sunked these British steamships too: KILLWINNING, TITAN, NARIN, GOOD HOPE, ELISTON, EUSTON. In this year his ex-uboat (U-5) has exploded on a sea-mine.
During the WW1 von Trapp sunked 11 ships (exactly 44595 BRT), and he vas the most succsesfull uboat captain of the K.u.K. Kriegsmarine.
When the WW2 brok out they were in Scandinavia (because they had a big musical talent), and then they went to USA (the film is not true, because they have not escaped in the time of Anschluß trough the Alps).
Trapp died in Vermont, in 1947.

The Austro-Hungaryan navy have had some other interesting operations and other interesting persons, and it is shame, that no one knows about them. I`m glad to see that you are interested.
