Persic Sunk, September 6, 1918

My grandfather was aboard the British transport Persic (12,042 tons) which was sunk by a U-Boat while carrying two thousand eight hundred United States troops, torpedoed two hundred miles off English coast. All on board survived.

My grandfather's letters home indicated that the U-Boat was sunk, however I cannot find any record on a U-Boat being sunk on that date.

Does anyone know which U-Boat torpedoed the Persic?

There is some confusion because apparently there was a White Star liner named the Persic that was torpedoed in the Mediterranean, but this was NOT the ship my grandfather was on.
