Hi Graham
KIRKHAM ABBEY was lying at anchor when she was torpedoed in the main kold at 1.25am (0125hrs) and sunk almost at once A second torpedo was fired by UB 40 but it missed although she was on the surfacew at the time, then she fired one shell at the steamer. The survivors were picked up by a patrol vessel, 22 passangers and crew and landed at Yarmouth; a further 30 landed at Winterton from one of the ship's boats.
She carried an unspecified general cargo, 28 crew, (two of whom were lost), 22 passengers, (4 of whom were lost); 6 in total. Wreck lies at 52 45 27'N 01 42 14E
ADM 137/2964
Cheers Ron
