Thanks for the replies Guys.
I think we can safely say that the patrol vessel which picked up survivors was HMT Isernia.
Given that this ship sunk quickly at night, when presumably most of those on board were asleep, it seems amazing that so many of them survived. Proximity to land and the presence of other vessels in the vicinity would have helped of course.
Some sources say that 8 souls perished. The two crewmen Ron mentions appear on the Tower Hill Memorial.
