Pierre
Below is the text of a question I posted recently I hope it is of some help to you.

My grandfather survived the sinking of his boat the armed trawler Thomas Collard when she went to the aid of the stricken Auxiliary Cruiser RMS Calgarian. This ship was torpedoed and sunk by U-19 while commanded by Johannes Spiess on March 1st 1918. I have records from Kew which give the British side of this incident but I would like to know how Spiess recorded this and if it is mentioned in his book "Sechs Jahre U-bootfahrten". What happened to Johannes Spiess? He had a book published in 1938 did he serve in WW2?
Regards & Thanks
