Pat,
Correct, BVLAS does list an unsuccessful attack on Justicia on January 23, 1918. Unfortunately, so far no one has really systematically worked through unsuccessful attacks during the war. Certainly it can be done (in fact, I know someone who is doing it for the Mediterranean) but it's a time-consuming process that in general requires primary source documents held at The National Archives at Kew.
Will keep an eye out for an attacks that could be a match as I go through various KTBs...
