But there is a lot of material at National Archives Kew/GB. I searched for UB 81 (sinking Dec 2, 1917) and found out, that G.C.C. Damand and his "U-Boat Flying Squad" tried to lift the boat. Kew has many mails, telegrams and reports between Portsmouth and the Admirality. Regarding UB 81 the signature is ADM 116/1632.
