Wdragon,
Research I carried out a few years ago before writing an article for a Welsh magazine revealed the following. The 'brains'behind the attempted escape was Kapitan von Hennig of U18 fame who was captured as a result of his mission into Scapa Flow, he was supported by Watch Officer Alfred Symonds of U14 captured off Peterhead. The trio was completed by Kapitan Herman Tholens who served on the cruiser "Mainz". Hope this helps you.
