I am told that my Grandfather, Leading Mechanic Peter Durrant of the RNAS was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal for gallantry "in a fight between a seaplane and a German Submarine, which was sunk by bombs from the seaplane." He was awarded medal no. 3260 by King George V himself at Aldershot on 8th June 1918. Does anyone have any more details of the circumstances surrounding this incident please?
