The London ''Daily Mail'' had an interesting article on Saturday August 18 2007, about the First World War U-B33 WHICH, the article claims is in imminent danger of breaking from its last resting place in the English Channel where it was sunk on April 11 1918 after hitting a mine at the Varnebank sandbar-all 28 crew on board perished.
UB33 lies in a busy Channel shipping in 77 feet of water but ships passing over her have only ten feet clearance and thefear is now that the UB33 will tear free from her present resting place due to water turbulence and crash to the surface and hit a passing ship.
UB33 was commanded by Leutnant Fritz Gregor and she snak 13 ships, took three as prizes and damaged two others.
A salvage operation has now been launched to prevent the UB33 becoming a shipping hazard as described above.
