In the 'Fishing News' dated 10.4.15, there is an item headed 'Shields Trawler Sinks A Submarine'. It describes the trawler Alexander Hastie's warps causing a U-boat bent on attack to capsize. The oil released covered an area of nearly a mile. Experts at the time thought this was an accidental 'kill' but I can find no record of a loss on that date. The trawler was fishing 105 miles ENE of the Longstone Lighthouse, off the coast of Northumberland. Any ideas, anyone? (eg. the U-boat concerned).
