Thanks. Although it sounds very interesting, and Portsmouth looks like a great place to visit, I don't think I will make the trip for one or two footnotes. I gather it is impossible to get access to the Leigh Lockhart manuscript in any way other than visiting the archive at Portsmouth. The negatives mentioned by "Clio," I assume, cannot be accessed remotely or purchased remotely. I'll try asking the archivists at Portsmouth, but perhaps you have a better suggestion. My interest is to establish the facts of the case regarding Healdton. Of course, Healdton's loss was part of the casus belli for the entry of the United States into World War I, and if the information received by Lansing and Wilson was guesswork, rather than fact, that in itself is a very interesting and significant point.
