David, Many Thanks for that information. I am curious to know how it is known that Sub-Lieutenant Allen was taken prisoner. If there were only 1 or 2 survivors (I have read nothing yet to the contrary, and I have only been able to find one name - leading seaman J.Leadley),I have to presume this man (or men) saw this happen or this was information conveyed by U 154 before it was sunk on May 11th.
Also, do you have any more information from your sources as to the fate of those who perished..were any at all picked up later..who exactly landed on the coast of Senegal, apart form Leadley? (dead or alive) Are there any survivor reports, both official and unofficial?? What about a service record for Bernhard Anderson? Any guidance in search of answers would be much appreciated. My mother lost all 4 of her uncles in this war, 2 of whom were Bernhard's younger brothers, the other his brother-in-law. No bodies were ever recovered.
Cheers
