Bombala did inflict some amount of punishment on one of the German uboats.
U154 suffered an explosion on its deck, probably from a splinter from one
of its shells igniting a German shell, resulting in the death of eight
German submariners and seriously wounding five others. The battle lasted
2 1/2 hours. U153 had a doctor on board on this cruise and U154 requested
the doctor be transferred to tend to the wounded. In addition U154 requested
a number of men needed to replace those killed and wounded. They all
would die a few days later when U154 was sunk.
Does anyone know the names of these sailors?
Respectfully,
