About 1950 my father told me that an uncle on his (McMillan) who was a shepherd on Islay saw a submarine close in shore on Islay during wwi. Shortly afterwards a ship or ships were sunk in the Irish Sea, He said that his uncle always had a conscience about this as he did not report the sighting at the time. Persons concerned are dead and I have no means of finding out which part of the island was involved.
