Michael,

Well, there are multiple issues here. Was a Portugese ship named ROBERTO IVENS mined? If so, what were the specifics of this ROBERTO IVENS? And who laid the mine?

At this point, my immediate question is to the second issue. There's no ROBERTO IVENS listed in the 1914 edition of Jane's Fighting Ships, Conway's, Lloyd's War Losses: The First World War, or the Starke-Schell list. That's a bit of a problem if this were really a 796 ton vessel built in 1906.
