A bit harder. I show three U-boats possibly in the Irish Sea at that point in time: UB 73, UB 86, and UB 109. UB 73 sank the LADOGA off the South Arklow LV on the 16th and UB 109 was along the east coast of Ireland as well.

UB 86 seems to have shifted to the Bristol Channel on about the 15th.

In any case, there's no indication of anything resembling a meeting with a sailing vessel on the 16th in theboats' patrol summaries. (I haven't checked the KTBs proper, but presumably there would be a refenernce to a special operation if one actually happened in the summaries.)

So it looks as if the Cotters being in a boat off Kingstown had nothing to do with a U-boat.
