UB 78 vs. HMT Strathearn

UB 78 (Oblt.z.S. Stosberg) on 21.03.1918 in the forenoon passed St. Abbs Head and went along the southern coast of the Firth of Forth up to Bass Rock, than at 19:15h they surfaced again and left the coast.

Feuer auf 2 Bewacher, die dem Boot den Weg verlegen wollten, auf 40 hm eröffnet. Feuer wurde von Fischdampfern erwidert. Ein Treffer beobachtet. Dampfer drehte brennend ab Gefecht wurde abgebrochen, da Zielfernrohr unbrauchbar und wegen einbrechender Dunkelheit. Über Wasser Rückmarsch nach Tynemündung

Lloyds War Losses gives the clue, despite I haven't seen files from TNA yet:

21.03.1918 damaged STRATHEARN (trawler), 152 tons, about 16 miles E. by S. of May Isld., arrd. Granton - fishing

Despite this entry leading to the assumption that this was an civilian fishing trawler, the STRATHEARN is listed in Dittmar/Colledge as an Admiralty trawler, hired up to 1919.
