Joe,

Three points:

1. I have little respect for the U.S. Navy lost list. They got things wrong, simple as that.

2. The ON TIME you mention is NOT included in the list of "Loss of American vessels reported during fiscal year 1919" in the 1919 "List of Merchant Vessels of the United States."

3. I'm helping someone with a book on U-boat off the U.S. coast in WWI and have mentioned this case to them. My contact found an August 14, 1918 newspaper article which states that:

"Owners of the fishing schooner On Time, reported by members of the crew of the schooner Cruiser as sunk by a German submarine Saturday, said today the vessel was safe in port."

Put this all together, and it's very clear U 117 only sank eight American fishing vessels on August 10, 1918 and that ON TIME wasn't one of them.

Best wishes,
Michael
