U-boat commander Schwertfeger sought

Hello

In another recent topic I tell the story of u-boat commander (UC 61) Georg Gerth's attempted escape from prison camp in Boyardville, France in January 1918. He was to be accompanied by a German officer called Schwertfeger about whom I could find no information.

I recently loaned my copy of Bodo Herzog, Deutsche U-Boote 1906-1966. I have just been told that the book, p. 306, contains Schwertfeger (no first name) in a list of u-boat commanders 1906-1918. He was commander of both U 21 and U 22, but not it seems during the war as he does not appear in the uboat.net list. Presumably Schwertfeger was on active service to end up in an officers' POW camp, however probably not as an active u-boat commander. He must have had value to the Flanders Flotilla as they set out to get both him and Gerth back to Bruges.

Any ideas.

Best wishes
Chris
