KK Teddy Suhren's memoirs describe an interesting but rather oblique incident involving U-107 when he was in command of U-564.

On 13 February 1942 when off Cape Hatteras, USA, Suhren (then Kptlt) and U-564 contrived to ram and seriously damage U-107 commanded at the time by his friend Kptlt Harald Gelhaus. One of the side fuel tanks on U-107 was holed and drained, which necessiatted Suhren transferring fuel from his boat to the casualty. U-107 the had to head back across the Atlantic to her home base for repairs.

It is interesting that thoughout his description of this incident Suhren refers to the boat he accidentally rammed as U-106, but that is incorrect. The casualty was, as stated above, U-107. The clincher is that Gelhaus never commanded U-106 but he was in command of U-107 on the material date.
