<HTML>I\'m entering the middle of a conversation, so may be missing something. But XXI\'s were also capable of high-speed dives....and speeds underwater that were still 17 or so knots, as on the surface.
My general understanding of Type XXI technology is that they were capable of shifting the balance in the Atlantic had they come somewhat earlier and in sufficient numbers.
IF is a naughty word on this forum, but we aren\'t talking about so terribly drastic IF\'s here, and I think they are totally valid.
The Battle of the Atlantc was for many years a VERY close battle. I contend only some subtle changes--now viewed in hindsight--could have produced a different outcome. Many historians say the same thing...and they do this for a living.
