<HTML>There is very little detail on how the U-2540 was salvaged, most likely because there were other articles of more interest in the book. Secrecy had nothing to do with it since everybody knew about the project. She was scuttled off the Flensburg light ship where the water depth is somewhere between 25 and 50 meters according to my Atlas. She was raised using cables or slings by two salvage ships working for the Beckedorf company and moved underwater to the Eckenförder Bight where she was put aground again in water which was probably not more than 10 or 15 meters deep, an easy dive even in 1957. Divers went down, checked her out for tightness and prepared her for refloating. U-2540 was pumped full of air, popped up like a cork and was towed to the Howaldtswerke yard in Kiel. Howaldtswerke apparently paid the salvage company DM 475,000 for the U-boat delivered to their dock. That is just about all there is on how U-2540 was salvaged.
