Hello,
Its an old thread, but history never becomes old, so I’ll take my chances.
I am interesting in another story regarding MTB 715, so I am looking for some background information, and became very hung up on the story regarding this attack that took place on 6 March 1945.
jcrt: You say that: ”As for U1055, last heard of by a radio message on the 23rd in 50N : 11W, saying she was heading for English Channel, then lost by unknown cause.” What is your source?
VegardT: I believe I have sent you a message on another forum, but I’ll repeat it here: Is this veteran of MTB 719 still alive, and can he perhaps answer some questions?
Rainer: You say that: “The attack was assessed by the U-boat Assessment Committee on 28 May 1945 as "U-boat present. No damage.", but no reason or source was given how they came to this conclusion.” What is your source? Do you have access to copies this assessment?
Rainer, you also say: “the torpedoes used were Mark VIII** with non-contact C.C.R. pistols”. Source?
And also: “it seems they detonated prematurely”. Are there a source that says something about how these “Mark VIII** with non-contact C.C.R. pistols” can behave? (I know nothing about this).
Best regards,
Leif L.
